Spirit Wear That Sells: A Playbook For Schools, Teams, And Boosters

Leftover spirit shirts in a storage closet are lost fundraising dollars. Presales and smart design fix that.

July 7, 20265 minute read

Every season we work with booster clubs, PTOs, and select sports organizations across Montgomery County. The groups that consistently profit from spirit wear are not the ones with the biggest budgets — they are the ones with the tightest process. Here is what that process looks like.

Run A Presale, Always

Speculative inventory is where fundraising money goes to die. Collect orders and payment first, then print exactly what sold plus a small buffer. A simple online form open for ten days is enough.

Presales also give you real size data instead of guesses, which means fewer unsold larges and fewer disappointed parents.

Design For The Parents, Not Just The Kids

Students will buy the loud design. Parents, grandparents, and alumni buy the tasteful one — and there are far more of them. Offering two designs, or one design on both a tee and a comfortable hoodie, reliably lifts total revenue.

Vintage-style distressed graphics and simple wordmarks in school colors consistently outsell busy multi-element designs in our experience.

  • Offer a loud version and a subtle version
  • Include at least one heavier item (hoodie or crew) for margin
  • Add youth sizes if families are your audience
  • Keep it to two or three ink colors to protect margin

Mind The Color Count

Every additional ink color raises your minimum and your per-piece cost, which comes straight out of fundraising margin. Most school color palettes are two colors — designing within that constraint usually produces a cleaner shirt anyway.

Build A Real Timeline

Work backwards from the date you need shirts in hand. Allow five to seven production days once garments arrive, plus a few days for garment delivery, plus your presale window, plus art approval. Three to four weeks total is comfortable; two weeks is doable with expedited production and a surcharge.

Price For Margin, Not Guilt

Spirit wear buyers expect to support the program. A shirt that costs your group under ten dollars commonly sells for twenty to twenty-five without complaint, especially when the design is something people would wear regardless.

The Takeaway

Presell, offer two design registers, keep colors tight, and start four weeks out. Sold-out runs follow.

What Customers Say

Loved By Local Brands & Teams

Businesses, schools, churches, and event crews across Greater Houston keep coming back for prints that feel as good as they look.

The water-base prints are unreal — our staff tees feel broken-in on day one. Reordered twice already and the colors match perfectly every time.
